Together for Mediterranean Sea

Tezenis started a special collaboration with Marevivo, the association that, since 1985, safeguards the sea and the environment.
The project "Together for Mediterranean Sea" aims to clean our Sea from plastic waste to grant an increasingly plastic free future.

Our goals

  • The project provides 120 trips of the Garbage Group's ecological boat "Pelikan", commissioned to the collection of 10 tonnes of plastic waste, equal to the weight of 1 million plastic bottles.

  • The boats offers a daily cleaning service, they are built in aluminium and they are able to collect and dispose of different types of waste thanks to a suction system.

  • The first step is to collect plastic through ecological boats. In a second phase the collected material will be used for the experimental production of clean energy. In this second step, the plastic is shredded and turned to gas at a temperature of about 1000 degrees.

  • Thanks to the high temperature, the plastic is converted into energy-rich gas without generating solid waste and without producing dangerous substances such as dioxin.

  • The project involves various participants, including Università Politecnica delle Marche and IRIS, a reality that promotes a technological vision at the service of the environment and society and which gave life to the Green Plasma device (Pyrolyser).

  • Thanks to the Green Plasma Pyrolyser technology, sea waste becomes a very precious resource: the presence of water in it helps to produce higher quantities of hydrogen and for this reason the produced energy is even better.

Did you know?

  • More than 10 million tonnes of plastic are dumped into the sea every year. 80% of this plastic comes from the mainland and the 20% comes from ships or from the waste that fishermen lose or voluntarily throw into the sea.

  • The required time for plastic breakdown is extremely long: in the sea plastic bottles have been found dating back to the 1960's.

  • Thanks to the "Pelikan boats" we will collect about 10 tonnes of plastic waste. About 7 tonnes of waste, of which 6,300 kg is plastic, have already been collected with only 40 trips of the "Pelikan" boat.

  • Cleaning an area of 240,000,000 m2, the collected plastic will contribute to the production of clean energy; with 1 kilo of plastic it is possible to create 1 KWh of energy which is equivalent to about 10 km of autonomy for an electric vehicle.

  • IRIS promotes a vision of technology which takes care of the environment and society: this is how the Green Plasma device (Pyrolyser) was born. The device exploits thermal plasma technology to transform any compound into recyclable gas and materials without waste, thanks to the high temperatures reached.

  • This is what happened with the plastic collected from the sea for the Tezenis and Marevivo project: by exploiting the Green Plasma device it was possible to transform waste into resources, reducing their impact on the environment and triggering a virtuous circular economy mechanism.
