Gordon d.o.o.

Gordon was founded in 2012 near Subotica, a region in Serbia close to the Hungarian border. The city of Subotica is one of the most highly industrialised in Serbia, so the challenge for Gordon was to identify a number of unique features that would guarantee the company’s survival. In keeping with the corporate principles, Gordon’s main strength is the attention paid to its employees, who are guaranteed a clean, safe working environment, salaries that motivate them, health insurance, free lunches and transport, and, in general, a very high quality of employment.

Our people

Just eight out of the company’s 1,806 employees are expats; this is indicative of the opportunities for growth and to build a managerial career within the company. In addition, 94% of Gordon’s workforce are women, who are provided with plenty of support so they can acquire increasing financial independence and security. Gordon is much appreciated in the city of Subotica, both for the contribution it has made to employment, and in 2020, for the help given to the community by donating face masks to combat the pandemic.

Respect for the environment

As regards the environment, the factory undertakes to reduce waste to a minimum by eliminating the unnecessary consumption of plastic and paper, and by training employees to adopt more eco-friendly behaviours. Also planned is the installation of LED lighting able to cut energy consumption by around 50%. Lastly, by the end of 2021, 100% of the electricity purchased will come from renewable sources.

The people who work for us have always been our most valuable resource, and no presentation of our factories would be complete without a word from them. Here are the stories of those who produce our items every day:

Kristina

My name is Kristina, and I’m from Novi Zednik, a village near Subotica. My mother used to work for a hosiery factory. We share experiences now and again, and when we talk about our work, I realise the environment I do my job in is very different: much better and definitely more advanced than the place she worked in.
I was hired as a seamstress towards 2013, straight out of school. I had no experience of...

this work, so the opportunity to receive careful training was essential for me: I was taught how to sew, and I immediately realised how important the quality of my work was. After a couple of years, I was promoted to line manager, which is the job I’ve done for most of my time here. Again, I received training for this position, but you learn a lot from experience. I’m now one of the production department supervisors, overseeing several lines at the same time and interfacing with the individual line managers.
For me, keeping promises is very important, and Gordon is a reliable, stable, safe working environment. That’s what progress is all about.

I’m from Backa Topola, a village about 30 kilometres from Subotica. I’ve always lived there, but I’m used to travelling, and I get to the factory every day thanks to the transport organised by the company. In Backa Topola, employment opportunities...

like this for women are very important. Working conditions are excellent here in Godon, tasks are organised into a single shift, and transport is always guaranteed.
I’ve been working here as a seamstress for six years now. When I started, Gordon was a young factory, offering – as it does today – plenty of opportunities for progress for anyone prepared to put hard work and passion into what they do. Over the years, I’ve had many opportunities to challenge myself, learning to work on new models or with new techniques, and helping my younger colleagues. I was offered a position as production line manager, and although I unfortunately had to turn it down for personal reasons, the opportunity meant a lot to me: it showed the importance of my work, and that my efforts were noticed.
I’m proud of my team, proud to be part of it; I’m happy to be appreciated and to know I’m trusted and relied on. This place has become like a second family for me, a part of my life.
